Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Core Labs, coordinates shared research resources in support of all research programs at the VBRI in order to maximize efficient laboratory operations. The Senior Coordinator ensures that all shared equipment is accurately inventoried, maintained and made readily available to support VBRI scientist and our campus partners. The Senior Coordinator will also ensure that essential laboratory infrastructure is available to support research. This role will work closely with the Director of Core Labs, the VBRI shared resource staff, and will interface regularly with Versiti Facilities, IS, Finance, EHS, and Research Administration.
Responsibilities
    Oversees day-to-day operations, cleanliness, organization, and inventory of VBRI shared research equipment

  • Ascertains that equipment is in good working order and arranges for repair/servicing as needed. Orders necessary supplies to support shared equipment function.

  • Uses the iLabs system for managing shared research equipment and provides support to research staff using iLabs with shared equipment

  • Maintains collaboration with research core labs and shared resource staff to maximize availability of state-of-the-art shared support resources.

  • Ensures regulatory compliance of VBRI shared resources and laboratory operations in the areas of biological, chemical and radiation safety. Coordinates with Versiti EHS in support of VBRI regulatory compliance.

  • Coordinates with VBRI Facilities on projects related to Shared Resource and Laboratory Operations

  • Coordinates with Information Services on projects related to Shared Resources and Laboratory Operations

  • Communicates critical operational information to research and administrative staff

  • Generates clear and complete records of research operations and support functions

  • Attends required laboratory and shared research staff meetings

  • Identifies opportunities with campus partners and external organizations to help VBRI scientists accomplish research goals.

  • Coordinates with Versiti Finance on equipment purchases, maintenance contracts, and iLabs issues related to shared research resources
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification

  • Understands and performs in accordance with all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements

  • Complies with all standard operating policies and procedures
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry or equivalent scientific discipline required
Experience
  • 4-6 years relevant research laboratory experience
    required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills required

  • Strong detail orientation and analytical ability required

  • Excellent problem-solving skills required

  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks and meet deadlines required

  • Ability to perform tasks, solve problems, and coordinate resources independently required

  • Generates clear and complete records of instrument acquisitions, inventories, maintenance and calibrations required

  • Experience with the iLabs laboratory information management system to manage shared research resources desired
