Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY

Summary of Basic Function: Under supervision, assign work assignments to Toolroom employees and direct and instruct employees in the performance of various tasks, such as planning, layout and performing all bench and machine operations to construct, alter and repair intricately designed and constructed tools, fixtures, gauges, machine attachments.
Essential Functions of the Position: Prepare requisitions for parts or materials required to complete orders and submit same to supervisor for approval. Make determination as to requirements and urgency of the order. Determine priority of work orders depending on effect of job on production, availability of parts, materials, etc. Distribute work orders to assure that all department employees are productively occupied. Perform any and all duties of a Toolmaker A.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
  • Diagnose machine, fixtures and tooling malfunctions and operating difficulties; effect repairs and adjustments either temporarily to keep machines fixtures, and tooling in production, or permanently if required and feasible
  • Able to operate tool grinders and O.D. grinding machines
  • Rebuild machines fixtures and tooling, overhaul troublesome components and attachments to involve dismantling, inspection, machining and/or replacement of purchased parts
  • Layout repair parts
  • Set up and operate machine tools to machine parts frequently improvising standard machines, tooling and attachments to perform unusual, highly precise and complicated operations
  • Perform skilled operations such fitting and aligning of bearings, spindles and shafts, fit align and calibrate parts, adjusting and feeding mechanisms
  • Perform work having to do with the build and installation of new machines to involve erection, leveling, fitting and aligning operations
  • May guide, direct and assign work to apprentices
  • Work from complicated drawings and specifications
  • Use a wide variety or precision instruments for exacting measurements
  • Perform development and experimental work; select allowances and materials, proceed from own conception in absence of design and specifications
  • Assume responsibility for quality workmanship and dimensional accuracy of assigned work
  • Meet all quality and safety requirements of the company and industry
  • Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent. Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Requires a basic knowledge of production, machines, tooling and fixtures along with machining skills, knowledge of production machines, tooling and fixtures along with machining skills
  • Knowledge of shop mathematics, metals and their properties
  • Requires completion of a Tool and Die Maker Apprenticeship
