Position Summary:

Manages operations of clinical programs and service lines (including but not limited to Cancer, Cardiovascular, Neuroscience, Orthopedics, Primary Care, Women's Health, Hospital Based Specialties, Behavioral Health, Immediate/Urgent Care, and Surgical Specialties) to provide consistent product and service models across the system. Aligns the service lines to achieve the organization's long-term strategies. Oversees the administration of the service lines which includes clinician engagement, growth, and market development initiatives as well as service line practice optimization.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Designs clinical programs and service lines to provide consistent products across the system in collaboration with the clinical service line leaders. Collaborates with the Markets and Areas to ensure appropriate implementation of the service lines.
  • Provides direction for the clinical service lines to ensure alignment with and achievement of the organization's strategic objectives in collaboration with the clinical service line leaders.
  • Develops and oversees the performance of clinical programs and service lines based on best practices that enhance quality, value, and health outcomes.
  • Provides leadership and identifies strategic opportunities for clinical and operations practice optimization and integration with consideration of the optimal use of systems, software, processes, and human capital in strategic functions and initiatives across the medical group.
  • Recommends strategies to optimize resources and meet the Area's competitive needs in collaboration with senior executives.
  • Collaborates with Business Development and Area leaders to develop growth and market development strategies to achieve regional, market, and Area business objectives.
  • Participates in developing service line strategy for the medical group. Provides guidance to the leadership team, representing the medical group as needed at all leadership, governance, and strategic planning meetings related to clinical operations, informatics, practice education, and system optimization.
  • Ensures practice delivery models align with Advocate Health's strategic direction and ensures clinic operational models are compliant with applicable local, state, and federal codes and regulations. Responsible for working with Area leaders on new clinic design and buildings as needed.
  • Responsible for efficient systems that provide for quality patient services and overall patient satisfaction. Develops and implements standardized quality assurance, utilization review processes and implements measures to ensure that the service lines meet the required standards.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
  • Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.
  • Direct leader for Advocate Health Midwest Region service line administration team, working with a physician dyad partner on regional, area and enterprisewide service line strategy and execution.


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • None Required.


Education Required:

  • Master's Degree in Health Care Administration or related field.


Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 10 years of experience in similar executive role with specific areas of experience in contributing and/or leading, business development, service line or clinical planning, specialty specific operations or strategic planning and execution.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Ability to understand the needs of a diverse population. Skills and ability to effectively interact with internal and external strategic decision makers of all levels. Demonstrated success in developing positive relationships as well as collaborative and strategic partnerships across the organization and with outside entities/groups.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to successfully interact with physicians and employees at all levels of the organization and within the community. Proven track record in conflict negotiation and ability to navigate crucial conversations and influence others.
  • Excellent skills in problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiation and diplomacy.
  • Experience and success working with major health care customer groups (i.e. physicians, business, insurance/payers, and consumers.)
  • Expertise in marketing plan development, product marketing and successful implementation of strategic communication initiatives, specifically getting required results.
  • Expertise in developing and interpreting research that evolves into successful marketing strategies.
  • Advanced knowledge of quality and process improvement plan development and implementation.
  • Demonstrated skills in organizing, planning, and developing long-range goal and achievement plans.
