The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra - You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Staff Engineer - Electrical Innovation (Hybrid).

Job Summary

The Staff Innovation Engineer - Electrical will support our organization's vision to build our legend and lead through innovation, evolution, and emotion. In this role, the successful candidate will develop and implement the early innovation work for our electrical system horizon project plan and ensure that our Systems Delivery teams are set up for success. Utilizing their strong communication skills, project management experience, and technical proficiency, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with cross functional stakeholders to refine technical roadmaps and deliver on innovation project milestones.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead upfront development work for our rider assistance systems, infotainment, and related electrical system technical roadmaps
  • Drive the early EE architectural work to provide long-term customer value and realize business opportunities
  • Develop and evaluate new functions, features, and systems on motorcycles in a rapid prototyping or proof of concept environment to determine viability, desirability, and feasibility
  • Design electrical components and/or software using a combination of "off the shelf" and custom hardware to support innovation exploration and research projects
  • Define project plans and establish innovation phase milestones for specific deliverables within each of our key focus areas
  • Collaborate with Systems Delivery teams to lead and execute high priority innovation projects
  • Effectively communicate technical roadmaps to broad base cross functional stakeholders and refine outcomes based on feedback and evolving business needs
  • Cultivate an exciting, passionate, and inclusive work environment geared toward disruptive ideation and innovation to exploit existing competencies and capabilities
Education Requirements
Bachelor's Degree Required
Education Specifications

  • Position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or closely related technical discipline.
  • Advanced technical Degree is Preferred.
Experience Requirements

Typically requires a minimum of 8 years work experience with a minimum of 5+ years in electric/electrical systems engineering. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated the following:

  • Electrical hardware design. Schematic generation, PCB layout, and quick-turn part procurement.
  • Strong knowledge of motorcycle, powersports, or automotive electrical systems, components, communication networks, and software
  • Automotive data networks such as CAN, LIN, or automotive ethernet.
  • Using both open (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.) and proprietary rapid prototyping tools, ECUs, and development boards to quickly develop and test new ideas.
  • Developing software or scripting in languages like C/C++, Python, and Matlab/Simulink
  • Mobile app development in Android/iOS
  • Project management experience and strong problem-solving skills
  • Motorcycle riding license and experience

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
