Title: Laborer Construction - Fountain & Pool Maintenance

Exemption Status: Non-exempt

Department: Facility Maintenance

Reports to: Manager Construction & Maintenance

Seasonal, approximately 28 weeks

Full-time, Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.


Position Overview:

Maintain fountains and pools throughout the Garden. Assist construction manager on various projects as needed.

Responsibilities:

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Cleaning debris from fountains & pools.
  • Making sure water levels are correct in fountains & pools.
  • Testing water quality in runnel at Learning Center and adjusting when necessary.
  • Checking for leaks in the plumbing systems of fountains and reporting such to engineers.
  • Assisting construction manager and engineers in various jobs, from trenching to moving furniture.

Qualifications:

  • Prior maintenance experience in the construction trades a plus.
  • You will be trained in the various operations of the fountains and pools.
  • Have a valid Illinois driver's license insurable by the Chicago Botanic Garden.
  • Willing to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands:

Work outdoors in all weather conditions. Be able to lift, pull, or push 50 pounds. Be able to carry up to 50 pounds upstairs. Be able to climb ladders up to 10 feet. Work in fountain/pool areas where there is water, at times knee-deep.
