With limited supervision and in coordination with the Senior Director of Marketing, this role will plan, direct, implement and analyze all aspects of the company's public relations activities. These responsibilities include generating positive exposure for the company through effective cross-channel media relations, working closely with executive management to support line of business and corporate strategies through effective public relations planning and execution, managing communication between the company and the public during incidents that may cause reputational harm to the organization, and managing Public Relations staff (as applicable) and external agency direction.

This person will also:

  • Develop and implement an annual Public Relations plan and budget that includes strategies to cultivate key media relationships, positively position the company for favorable news coverage, and create news worthy opportunities for Associated to receive positive press coverage and brand growth.

  • Serve as the primary media contact for both inquires and proactive outreach efforts. Proactive outreach includes: the development of key stories that promote Associated's interests, promoting events of interest, and building a strong network of media contacts.

  • Work closely with the Corporate Communications Manager on implementing crisis communication and disaster recovery plans when needed. Manage external communications in case of events.

  • Work closely with other members of Corporate Communications to obtain positive press coverage related to Associated's charitable contributions and colleague volunteerism activities and develop overall community relations strategies.

  • Directly support executives and senior leaders in the development and implementation of Public Relations and community relations strategies for various lines of business, support units and regions.

  • Cultivate relationships with representatives of traditional and non-traditional media, the community and community organizations, and other centers of influence for the purpose of generating favorable news coverage; gaining positive, newsworthy media pitch opportunities; and acquiring appearances of the company's subject matter experts at outside events.

  • Independently and/or with support from agency partners, provide background research and write various communications including but not limited to news articles, news releases, ghost columns, strategy documents, white papers, background research on key topics and talking points.

  • Oversee the creation and management of Public Relations reporting, including but not limited to Board of Directors and Senior Leadership media reporting, campaign-specific reporting, and evaluation of industry public relations activities.

  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of Public Relation's department processes and procedures.

  • Work closely with the Investor Relations Director, the Internal Communications Manager, Digital Marketing Director, and Corporate Social Responsibility Manager to ensure consistent messaging for all internal and external audiences.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required


Experience

  • 7-10 years Public Relations, media relations and/or journalism with strong writing experience from the banking/financial services industry. Required

  • 3-5 years Specific experience developing and executing public relations plans for a publicly-traded financial institution. Preferred.
